AI SEARCH · GEO
GEO makes your website a source that generative search systems trust, quote and link to. It builds on Semantic SEO, so the work that helps AI systems also helps Google rankings.
WHAT GEO IS
Generative engines such as Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT search, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot do not show ten blue links. They read many pages, combine what they find and write one answer. A small number of sources are cited inside that answer. Generative Engine Optimization is the work of becoming one of those sources.
The term comes from a 2023 research paper from Princeton and partner universities that tested how content changes affect visibility in generative answers. The finding that matters most for businesses: clear structure, specific facts, statistics and quotable statements made content noticeably more likely to be used. Keyword stuffing did not help.
GEO is not a replacement for SEO. Most AI systems still retrieve pages through a search index, so a site that is crawlable, indexed and ranking has a head start. GEO adds a layer on top: making each page easy to understand, easy to extract from and safe to cite. It sits inside my wider AI Search Optimization service next to AEO and LLMO.
WHAT THE WORK COVERS
Every GEO engagement starts with an audit of these six areas.
Your business, people, services and products are defined consistently across your site, schema and profiles, so AI systems know exactly who you are.
Each page opens with a direct answer, then supports it with steps, comparisons and examples that can be extracted cleanly.
Specific numbers, definitions, dates and first-hand results give a generative engine something concrete to quote.
A connected set of pages around each topic, so your site is the complete source rather than one thin page.
Clear authorship, credentials, real case studies and consistent mentions across the web.
AI crawlers can reach and render your content, and nothing important is hidden behind scripts or blocked in robots.txt.
THE PROCESS
I map the questions your customers ask AI assistants, not only the keywords they type into Google. Conversational prompts are longer and more specific, so they reveal intent that keyword tools miss.
I check which of those prompts currently mention or cite your brand, which cite competitors, and which sources are cited most often. This shows where you are missing and why.
Organization, Person, Service and Product schema are aligned with your on-page content and external profiles. This is the same foundation used in Entity SEO.
Key pages are rewritten so the answer comes first, headings match real questions, and supporting facts are easy to lift. Missing pages are added to complete the topic.
Author pages, case studies with real data, and consistent brand mentions make your content safer for an AI system to cite.
AI answers change often. I re-test the prompt set on a schedule and report changes in mentions and citations alongside normal Search Console data.
FAQ
GEO builds on SEO. SEO earns rankings in search results; GEO makes the same content easy for generative engines to understand, extract and cite. A site with weak SEO rarely does well in AI answers.
No one can guarantee placement in AI answers. What GEO does is remove the reasons you are being skipped and strengthen the signals AI systems rely on when choosing sources.
Pages that are already indexed can start appearing in AI answers within weeks of being restructured. Building broader topical authority usually takes three to six months.
Yes, local searches are increasingly answered by AI. Clear entity data, consistent business details and helpful service pages help local businesses get recommended.
